The Bell's Toll (prologue)
Title: The Bell's Toll (prologue)
Author: monstrousreg
Word count:
Warnings:  Violence, fast pacing, eventual NC-17. So, uh, the usual for me, I suppose.
Pairing: Erik/Charles.
Summary: Nikkita AU inspired by this prompt. A sort of fusion between the two series, with a healthy (or not) dose of my own imagination. Charles Xavier goes to prison, and is recruited by a spy/assassin division of the government. Dismal a beginning as this might look, it unbelievably goes downhill. Erik, the necessary stoic ex-military man, gets sidled with him. Not a single person is amused.
Notes: Unbetaed, and stuff. Uh, I suppose I should get a beta someday. OP, I hope it meets your expectations!
First chapter posted tomorrow, probably.

“This,” Charles said, sitting down on the one chair and crossing his legs. “is pleasantly symmetric, don’t you agree?”

Erik didn’t answer.

“I’m just saying,” Charles continued. “Tit for tat, old friend.”

“Are you going to kill me?” Erik asked.

Erik closed his eyes, pressed his face to the cold cement of the floor.

“Then why not do it already? One bullet, clean death—I gave you that much, Charles. You owe me.”

“Oh, yes,” Charles said softly, silkily. “One bullet—I remember. Three years of my life, gone. Yes—I owe you so much.”

Erik gritted his teeth, struggling to sit up, an impossibility given the way he was tied up—tied up with steel cable, of all things. He tried to feel for it, but it felt like half his skull was empty, and where his gift used to be laid a huge, sucking void like an open mouth. If he contemplated that void too much, he could feel his mind begin to fracture into madness.

“I never took away your powers,” he said tiredly.

“I hope you’re not complaining that I’m not treating you justly,” Charles arched a brow. “Because after you shot me in the back of the head, I might just find you slightly hypocritical.”

A long pause.

“I made you into this,” Erik said quietly.

“Yes,” Charles nodded, blue eyes electric.

“There was a time, not so long ago, where you might have found it within yourself to forgive me,” Erik sighed, going limp against his bonds on the floor. He was tired, so tired. Bone-weary, exhausted, and this creature in front of him—this Not-Charles, this cold-blooded remorseless killer made the fine hairs on his neck stand up.

Charles had lost so much weight since the last time he had seen him—he was sharp and honed like a blade now, muscles long and flat—nothing like the soft firmness of a healthy man, writhing fluid like a snake beneath Erik’s fingertips.

Five years. Five years since that night.

“That Charles Xavier is dead,” Charles murmured pensively, and he might have caught that fleeting thought, or he might not. “You put a bullet through him, remember?”

Erik closed his eyes.

I’m sorry, old friend, Charles whispers, caress-soft, in his mind. But this was a long time coming.
 Chapter 1

Great prologue! I don't know if I will follow this, but it seems very promising.

Now, I don't know the TV series Nikita (just the movie), but I did some Wiki research. If I understood correctly, Charles poses as Nikita and Erik as Michael, so aren't they supposed to be romantically involved and allies at some point?

Won't it be hard if Erik's dead?

It would be hard, but that would be an entirely different kind of story :D

This prologue is set at the middle of the story really--lost happened before, and a lot will happen afterwards. I'm somewhat fond of non-linear stories, I admit.

I watch Nikita only sporadically, but this CHARLES, cold and reasonable while Erik's semi-remorseful and regretful...♥

I don't want the new Nikita series, and it's been quite a while since I watched the original movie or the original series, but I admit I like the idea :D

(Glares at livejournal for first eating my comment then posting it under an account I haven't used in ever.) Anyway! What was I saying. MY HEART. I saw this prompt and was hoping someone would fill it, I am ecstatic it turned out to be you. I am with ya for this one. Aaall the way.

Dude, murder and blood and a badass Charles, how could I resist? *sigh* I'm telling you though, this character is doing his own bloody thing.

*sigh* Don't they always?

Oh, great set-up. I want to know what happened to get them here now!</> Can't wait for the next bit.

I know right? That's why I like this kind of prologues *grins*

This is so intriguing. I'm hooked.

Also, I've been diligently stalking your fic and am just gonna go ahead and friend you. Yep.

Totally hooked. And might need to start watching Nikita now. Darn. This premise sounds intriguing and wonderful, though it is still hard to imagine that Charles could change so much. He's SO different, but I guess that's the point, eh?

Hey! Oh, no need to watch Nikita, I don't think. I mean, it's amusing, so by all means watch it to have a laugh, but since I deviated from both series you won't need to.

I know--how to turn our sweet Charles into this, right? Well, if anyone can, it sure is Erik.

I am already hooked! I don't actually follow Nikita, so I don't know exactly what to expect, but that adds to the intrigue. This Charles is terrifying and different I love it. I have to friend you to follow this fic's updates.

Friend me all you want! Mwahaha come to the dark side! (we have cookies).

¡Amo tus fics! son siempre tan bien perfilados y bien puestos y tienen un grasp tan bueno de sus voces :)

¡Excelente inicio!

Gracias! Ya veremos como funciona esto, este Charles se esta haciendo dificil de escribir.

I love ALL of your stories with Erik/Charles. This feels like its going to be AMAZING! I'm all in babe! And so excited for the next part =)

Another series! I am excited :-)

I don't even know what Nikita is about, but this is intriguing. I like the set up and can't wait to see how things end up like that - and how they proceed. Perfect teaser to start with. :D
